Coast to Coast... Border to Border, only once in a lifetime!!
Newsletter #2 - Dec 2012 Newsletter #2 - Dec 2012

Published: 28/Diciembre/2012

After almost 2 months of scouting and hundreds of kilometers cycling, walking, mountain climbing, and paddling through canals, rivers, and oceans, the final route has been decided.  A few small changes could arise in the coming months, but they will not alter the overall design of the event.

Here is some information to help you prepare:

  •  As stated previously, the ARWC Costa Rica 2013’s route will include two natural borders between Costa Rica and Nicaragua, and Costa Rica and Panama, also the two coasts Atlantic and Pacific. First time in Costa Rica and the world!
  •  The course length will be between 750 to 850 kilometers long, and we hope the first team will finish in 6 days.
  • The race has a duration of 9 days.  We trust the teams will prepare for the test and will be able to finish the entire course.
  •  We have been able to verify, by scouting one year in advance, that the temperatures and rainfalls may vary. It is that time of the year when the rainy season ends and dry season begins, so anything can happen…
  • The routes for all modalities are well distributed. The distances are almost the same for mountain bike, trekking, and kayak/rafting.
  •  The temperature in the coastal areas can reach a high of 35ºC , with 97% humidity, so hydration will be very important. You should be prepared!
  • High altitudes will also be included.  The Cordillera of Talamanca covers almost the whole country so there is no way to avoid it.  The temperature at night in an altitude of 3500 meters above sea level could reach 0º C.  Special clothing, tent, and sleeping bag for low temperatures will be required.

-          We already have 33 teams registered and another 27 reservations for the ARWSeries competition. Since the race has a limited capacity of 70 teams, it is important to register as soon as possible.

Finally, we wish you all Happy Holidays and a very successful 2013 … Prepare for the worldwide competition 2013 in Costa Rica … there will be no better way to end next year!
